The back is low enough to be cool and comfortable, but the fit prevents it gaping at the front or back so is perfectly modest.
The whole thing was a joy to sew and I am still a real beginner, the only bit I struggled with was the sleeve fitting, I lined up the centre underarm seam and pinned the fabrics towards the neck, as I got there I was a bit confused about the angles.Thankfully I basted it first and soon realised it was wrong.
INCORRECT
After playing with it for an hour in confusion I realised the bias tape on the shoulder part of the sleeve needed to be parallel to the front neck edge, rather than the side of it. I stitched this in place before pinning, it pulls down slightly on the end of the bias tape and fit perfectly.
CORRECT
It is so lovely. Very professional, you will have to give me some lessons
ReplyDeleteGreat job, the fit of the top is perfect. Will definitely be adding that Lisette pattern to the list. Kudos on figuring out the sleeve attachment as well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!! Love the polka dots!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe neck fits you really well - mine is a bit "gappy". You certainly like Lisette patterns! So many lovely makes!
ReplyDeleteI can't find any other patterns I love as much as Lisette ones, so easy to follow and fun to sew. I may get bored eventually of them but as long as they keep making more, I will stick to lisette.
DeleteI am so stuck on this dress/top. Matching the dots/notches and underarm seam I am fine on the front of the dress (with the bias tape parallel to the neck edge) but when I move from the underarm seam up the back of the sleeve I have way too much fabric on the dress back versus the sleeve. I have enough sleeve only to reach the bottom of the yoke, not the top. Hence the bias tape is parallel with the bottom of the yoke. Can you think of what I am doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret, I have done a new post to try and explain the difference in fabric lengths. Hope you have got it to work now.
DeleteI had the same issue, I had to pull the fabric out a bit to fit, and pin lots, I basted first so I could check it was all even. I was very confused by it too. Try pulling it to fit and baste, it will look right. I just made a second one and had same issue.
